Sweden is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. Sweden has land borders with Norway in the west and the northeast by Finland, as well as direct connection to Denmark via the Oresund Bridge in the southwest. Sweden is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system and a developed economy. Sweden distinguished itself as an independent and unified state in the Middle Ages. During the 1600s the country grew sharply in what has become known as the Golden Age. Most of the conquered nations outside the Scandinavian Peninsula were lost during the 1700s and 1800s.
